A great cold call script is a hypothesis, not a leash. Reps who internalize the structure — opener, value, two questions, rebuttal, close — out-book script-readers 3 to 1. STAOS turns the script into a habit.

01  How it works

Six inputs, one structured script.

The script is not the point — the structure is. Reps who internalise opener, reason, value, two questions, rebuttal and close out-book script-readers by a wide margin, because they can leave the page when the call goes somewhere unexpected.

Step 01
Tell it who is calling whom

Your name, your company and role, and the prospect's role and industry. That last field does most of the work: a script written for a founder of a 20-person agency reads nothing like one written for a marketing director at a manufacturer.

Step 02
Give it the value prop and the objection

One line on what changes for them — not what you do — and the objection you actually hear most. The rebuttal is built around that specific objection rather than a generic list, which is what makes it usable.

Step 03
Copy it and then rehearse away from it

You get a pattern-interrupt opener, reason for the call, value statement, qualifying questions, rebuttal and soft close. Copy the whole thing, then read it aloud until you can hold the shape without the words.

02  Questions

Cold calling in 2026, honestly.

Yes, at roughly a 5% connect rate, and top SDRs book a meeting every 25 to 35 calls. Those numbers are unglamorous and they are also why cold calling still works: most teams quit at the volume required, so the phone stays less crowded than the inbox. The maths only breaks if the conversation is bad when you finally connect.

Permission-based or pattern-interrupt, per Gong's data. The failure mode is the enthusiastic "how are you today" — it announces a cold call in four words and triggers the reflex to end it. Naming why you are calling, plainly and immediately, outperforms every attempt to disguise it.

For the first week or two, yes, so the structure becomes automatic. After that it should be scaffolding, not a leash. A rep reading a script cannot listen properly, and prospects can hear the difference immediately. The test is whether the rep can handle an unexpected answer and get back to the shape — that is what internalised looks like.

Two, maybe three, before you attempt any kind of close. A cold call is not a discovery call; the goal is a next meeting, not a full qualification. Reps who try to run discovery on a cold call lose the prospect somewhere around question four.

Treat it as a soft no, which it usually is, and trade for a next step: agree to send something and book fifteen minutes to walk through it. Sending information without a scheduled follow-up is how a call becomes a deal that goes dark. Put your most common version of this into the objection field and the script builds the rebuttal around it.

Beyond the first name, yes — Gong and Instantly both put the lift around 18%. But it has to be relevant, not decorative. Referencing a recent hire, a new service line or a competitor's move earns a sentence. Mentioning their marathon does not.
